Athlete of the Month - Sarah Schulte

I heard about TNT from my husband who trains Jiu-Jitsu at the same gym as Oscar and knew of him and his gym. I injured my knee backpacking in 2022 and after 6 months was frustrated with the pain and weakness I still felt performing ordinary tasks. I knew I needed strength training but didn't really know what that looked like. I started classes at TNT at the end of February 2023 and immediately loved the group classes (who knew working out with other people was so much more fun than working out alone??) and how friendly people were. Today I hardly notice my knee injury and Courtney has been great in providing accessory work for me to do before/after class to keep my knee in good shape.

I had...

Athlete of the Month - Serena & SJ

Serena:

Since Serena was born she has been actively involved in various sports starting with swimming, gymnastics and soccer. She was constantly with her mom as she ran and pushed her in a stroller on her jogs until she was old enough to jog next to her. It evolved to some basketball and eventually was old enough to begin KidsFit where she then began Olympic lifting competitions soon after. She now participates in at least one 5k every quarter.

SJ joined Serena in most athletic adventures after his time being jogged around in the stroller. He took on basketball and joined KidsFit on his 7th birthday. He prefers the calisthenics of KidsFit over the weightlifting and has recently taken up some...

About 12 years ago I was overweight coming in at 210-220. One day I saw my self in the mirror and did not like what a saw and started going to club fitness every day and barely eating anything (yes I now know that was not healthy) . I did drop about 25 lbs. But I was not happy. I started going to TNT in 2014, I wanted a relationship that could help me get where I wanted. I started doing personal training with Oscar. I was doing two 1 hour sessions with him and a couple swift class each week. My goal was to lose weight and maintain that weight. He helped me with nutrition and building muscles . I lost another 10 lbs and was happy. I kept doing this over next couple years.

I then started slip...

I am so excited to be June’s AOTM! Looking back on the other athletes reflections I noticed a common theme; going back to the first time they walked into TNT. So this is my story.

I started coming to tnt almost 3 years ago before I started 8th grade. I decided to start going to a gym because I wanted to stay active after I had quit volleyball. My mom signed me up for training with Oscar (thanks for not giving up on me lol) and I did training with him for about 8 months. I remember walking into tnt and seeing the cross-fit classes that were going on. I would always think to myself that the people who did cross-fit were so cool and I wanted to be like them. I thought for the longest t...

Many years ago I came to TNT to get weighed and measured for a Lurong Challenge. I was going to wait around for Mike, Sammi and Sarah to finish their workouts, when Oscar convinced me to try the half hour workout. To my surprise, I didn’t trip and the rowing didn’t kill me.

I have been going to TNT for a few years now, working out at a Swift class 2-3 times a week with a couple of stretches out to heal a few injuries. Two years ago I started with Courtney on Habits. It was a great two years learning about the importance of protein, eating a rainbow of fruits/veggies as well as keeping hydrated and getting plenty of sleep. All of this helped me get through 2023. That was when it...

When I entered my 40’s a few short, short…short years ago I was unfortunately starting to feel my age. It’s no fun waking up and feeling a new part of my body be sore for absolutely no reason. Seriously, how do you pull a muscle sleeping? That and the growing fear of some family genetics catching me later in life pushed me to start working out at another CrossFit gym some years ago.

At some point after some changes at that gym and other small life changes I stopped working out for a period of time until those nagging ache’s returned. Then, on a whim one day I passed TNT and just decided to stop in and see if it could be a place I could get back into a routine. I met ...

Receiving the news that the coaches selected me for March AOTM completely overwhelmed me, touching not just my mind but my heart. I found myself sitting in my car, tears streaming down my face, unable to enter the gym immediately. These past two years of my fitness journey have been filled with unexpected twists and turns, from navigating through rotator cuff and bicep surgeries and dealing with a hamstring tear even before delving into CrossFit, with life's trial losing my dad last year and my mother's current battle for survival out of nowhere.

Back in 2005, I underwent thyroid surgery due to a large Goiter pressing against my trachea. The medications triggered a significant weight gain i...

I am incredibly thankful (and surprised) to have been selected as the Athlete of the Month at TNT. Starting off earlier in life as primarily as a powerlifter and bodybuilder, I never anticipated how much I would enjoy Crossfit.

It all started during COVID brought about a significant shift in my workout routine with my normal commercial gym closing. I was continually encouraged by Mike Barnett and Darrell West in convincing me to join TNT to try something new. Little did I know that this decision would reignite my passion for working out and help push me in so many different ways.

One of the aspects I cherish most about TNT is the incredible camaraderie I have found among my 5AM Crossfit team...

I was blown away when I got the message that the coaches chose me for January's Athlete of the Month! While I like to joke around at times I still give my best effort, and it's nice to know it's been noticed.

Unsure what to write I read through the AOTM archives for ideas, and what stood out many times was each athlete's personal journey to get them to first walk through the door, then drive them to where they are today. With that as my inspiration here's my story ...

Frustrated with my fitness in June 2017 I told Karen & Leah the 2x/week unstructured workouts at the local box gym wasn't enough and I was ready to make a lifestyle change. I wanted to try this CrossFit thing I'd heard about, ...

Although typically an even-keeled person, that was not the case when taking a trip down memory lane and reflecting on my time as a TNT member, as I became surprisingly emotional. During the past two years I have been…

Scared of walking through the TNT doors for the first time and even more scared that I would find an excuse to not come back for a second time

Angry for allowing myself to be inactive for 25 years and starting over on my health and fitness journey at age 50

Unsure of how I would keep off the weight I lost and improve my overall health

Amazed at the dedication and abilities of members who perform movements with grace and skill

Winded after my first “workout” tha...
