At the beginning of July I set out to be more mindful of small goals. Sometimes when we set long term goals for ourselves it is easy to lose sight of all the milestones along the way. For July, I told myself I would get my first double under and shave 3 minutes off my 5k. Well, my 5k plans didn't happen the way I intended; but, I'll know after this weekend how my time has improved. As far as my first double under, there are still 2 days left in the month. Lots of work has been put in but that infamous 1st continues to evade me.
This month I was able to get my first 20 inch box jump. 50+ of them in one day with no fails. For the very 1st and then 2nd time I feel comfortable doing wall balls and set a new Personal Record at 103 pound muscle snatch.
While these weren't the goals I set out to meet this month they are goals that were attained and left me feeling excited about how I can see my hard work paying off.
Though it may seem corny, to me, the Miley Cyrus song, The Climb, represents a good analogy for our struggles throughout our fitness journey.
"There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side
It's the climb"
No matter where you are in your fitness journey, every day counts. When we work to make change and challenge ourselves there are many lessons to learn along the way. Don't take them for granted. Embrace them and learn what you can in life and fitness. You have this one body and this one life. Make the most out of it, take care of it, make it count!
